How to Register Health Supplements in the UAE 

All consumer products to be manufactured, sold, or imported into the UAE must be registered by Dubai Municipality, according to the Local order No. 11/2003. This is regulated by the health and safety department of Dubai Municipality and requires all establishments or individuals dealing with consumer products to be licensed with activity related to consumer product trading by the relevant authorities in Dubai or other emirates in the UAE.

Dietary supplement product registration involves the establishment or individual meeting various requirements and providing various documents needed for the registration process. Registration can be done using the Montaji system. 

This system is developed by the Dubai Municipality and allows businesses and individuals dealing with consumer products in UAE to enjoy privileges such as execution and management of product registration, product listing, advert permits, online payment of all fees related to consumer products, etc. Some documents that are needed for the registration of health supplements include

Label Requirements for Health Supplement Registration 

As a prerequisite, dietary supplement product registration requires verifying certain information on the label. These include 

  • Brand name 
  • A summarized description of products 
  • Production and expiry dates 
  • Period after opening 
  • Name and address of the manufacturer 
  • Net weight or volume 
  • Country of origin 
  • Batch number 
  • Product’s barcode 
  • Storage conditions 
  • No medical claims allowed 
  • Instruction for using the product 
  • Ingredients list, pointing out those that may cause hypersensitivity. 

The Validity of Registered Products 

A detailed analysis of the health supplement with regards to its specifications, ingredients, and other standards is carried out to verify compliance with set standards. If found to comply, a health supplement registration certificate is issued. This allows the health supplement to be manufactured, imported or sold in any market in Dubai or any other emirate in the UAE. 

This certificate is valid for five years after the date of issuance. After the validity period, the establishment or individual must start processing a new health supplements Registration Certificate, if the health supplement will continue to be manufactured, imported, or sold in the UAE.
